As an emerging company, we need your support by donating to our GoFundMe! Your donations will help us pay our actors, designers for our inaugural season. It is our goal to uplift local artists and communities and are beyond excited to share our festival line-up. Read below about the featured artists, small businesses, and products that will be offered in the following weeks!

What do your donations cover?

We are fundraising for our 2022-23 inaugural season. This includes 2-3 fully realized productions (more details below!)! We strive for each and every artist to feel their work is valued by Garden Level and reflect that value through fair practices in work processes and compensation. In order to create true accessibility within live arts, we must start with crafting an industry that provides reasonable opportunities for artists to make a supportive living wage, starting from the garden level!

What is the Fundraising Festival?
We are so honored to be featuring the work of lovely local artists and small businesses who share our values to help raise money for GLTC’s inaugural season!

Starting on Monday, through donations to our GoFundMe, you will get the chance to receive amazing handmade items from our wonderful artists and small businesses. Each week we will feature a new artist/business! Keep an eye out for more updates coming soon!

Why are we crowdfunding?

The dream is to one day be a self-sustaining company. We plan to steer away from the current theatrical organizational institution to build a whole new kind of “live arts hub” that will hold a subscription-based network of artists and audiences. This crowdfunding campaign serves to jumpstart our inaugural season until we can be a self-sustaining company.

We are excited to be launching our first annual fundraising festival

Meet the artists

week 1: July 25-July 31

custom poetry

  • Alyssa Peterson (they/she) is a writer and musician living in Chicago. They studied the classical saxophone at Interlochen Arts Academy, and English and sociology at Northwestern University. Their work has previously appeared in Helicon Literary Magazine. They collect records and have a cat named Nigel, and they spend a lot of time shooing him out of the kitchen sink. Follow them on Instagram at @alyssampeterson

  • Hi friends! I’ll be writing cute, quirky, and customized poems to support my lovely friend Dinah and Garden Level Theater Co. The first 20 donors will receive one customized poem based on a prompt that they choose for me. The poems will be typed out on my type writer and will be packaged and mailed to you with love as a thank you for supporting this growing theater company!

  • Thank you so much to all who donated this week. Your poem is on its way!

  • Sarah Geiz is a creative Virgo who finds herself grounded through embroidery. She obtained her degree in Applied Psychology from New York University and now works as a market research consultant. She’s the hands behind Seaming’s operation, infusing each bag with enthusiasm for embroidery and lots of love! In her free time, she enjoys poetry and makeup.

  • Tickle Mhlambiso is a multifaceted artist, Aquarius, and creative manager. She manages the business and oversees Seaming’s social media channels. Having studied drama at New York University, she has a knack for exploring the unconventional in her artwork. In her free time, she can be found tending to her plants and playing video games!

BAKED GOODS

  • Metukim Bakery specializes in bringing rich and robust flavors to classic baked goods! Our focus is on bringing out the beauty and taste of nature's most delicious ingredients such as cocoa, tea, and citrus.

    What's up with the names?

each item offered is named after a Metukim Bakery loved one! The item was either requested by them or created based on their favorite flavor combinations. As our small business expands, new items will become available and you will get to meet more Metukim loved ones!

  • Hello! My name is Mika and I am passionate about all things food related! I have had the incredible opportunity to travel around many different parts of the world and go on numerous “dessert safaris.” A Dessert Safari is my mom's name for trying every single dessert on the menu and is the best experience a sugar-loving child could have. As I grew up, I became interested in unique flavor combinations that are not common in the United States. I moved away from the typical super-sweet profile of desserts and started experimenting with intense flavors. I mixed this with my passion for travel to create classic American desserts with globally-inspired flavors. Among my favorite creation are the Earl Grey Scone and the Rose Lemon Meringue Pie!

  • *To note, baked items will be available for pick up at the “Because the Grass Started to Breathe” shows. If you cannot attend the production, we can arrange for pick-up but only in Manhattan. We will not be delivering these products otherwise.

    1) Donate EXACTLY $10 or $18 to the GLTC fundraiser (so we know how many cookies you want!). **When you make your donation, be sure to use an email address that you check on a regular basis!
